Life in the Compound: From Educated Youth to Widow

Zhang Taoxing transmigrated to the 1970s. The original owner was a pretty educated youth, schemed against by her stepfather. Her stepsister stole the job that should have been hers, then signed her up to go work as an educated youth in the countryside outside the province.

Because she was beautiful, many men in the village coveted her. Desperate for love, she decided to marry the village bully after he saved her life.

After the original owner and her husband married, her life improved considerably, thanks to her husband's protection and that of his family.

However, the original owner's husband died while saving someone.

At this point, Zhang Taoxing, who had just arrived in this world, was already pregnant.

Zhang Taoxing: ...

Fortunately, the original owner's husband had saved the factory director's son. To show his gratitude, the factory director moved Zhang Taoxing, her mother-in-law, and her grandmother into the factory compound.

Zhang Taoxing gave birth to a girl in the large courtyard where the factory director had settled them.

Now she had to choose between going back to the village to farm and raise her daughter, or marrying a pauper who lived alone in the courtyard and had two nephews to care for.

Zhang Taoxing: Of course she'll stay in the courtyard, leave her daughter with her mother-in-law and grandmother, and get a job as a cook at the meat-processing plant.

Being a widow with no man to boss her around has to be better than marrying a pauper with two nephews in tow.

The pauper in the courtyard at that moment, the factory director's rebellious younger son, He: Is he not standing tall enough? Why does his future wife dislike him so much?
