You are reborn.
You are the protagonist's friend in a power-progression novel. On the eve of the apocalypse, you storm out of school after falling out with the protagonist. You're unlucky cannon fodder who gets caught in the first wave of disaster, dies after appearing for just one chapter, and is written out of the story.
From then on, your soul is bound to the protagonist's side.
You watch the protagonist blame himself for your death, then pull himself together and fight the apocalypse alongside a host of comrades, growing stronger by the day. He makes friends, gets betrayed, and eventually loses everyone. Driven to the brink of death, he rises from the ashes, becoming a true loner. Though he holds a position of power, he is bloodthirsty and cold. He seems to have succeeded, but in truth, he has nothing.
This is the path the protagonist must take to grow.
The path to godhood is destined to be lonely!
In the final battle, the protagonist kills the last remaining monster and exhausts his powers. Everyone sees him as the source of all evil and joins forces to slaughter him. He dies in a self-detonation.
He dies the night before the world is supposed to know peace. Then the world is destroyed.

With his death, you are reborn.
You return to the moment you ran out of the school gates. When you open your eyes, you stop and look back at the entrance, then turn around and head back without a moment's hesitation. But as soon as you turn, you see the protagonist running toward you.
His eyes are bloodshot. Overwhelming anguish is held back in his gaze, yet he doesn't dare come closer, as if you might shatter at a touch.
You smile at him and say, "I'm sorry. I was wrong just now."
But he holds you tight and says, "It's all my fault. I was wrong. I'll never let you leave again."
You think he's joking. Who knew that from then on, he would do everything in his power to protect you, never leaving your side?

The protagonist's perspective:
Your best friend died because of your negligence. From that moment on, you are consumed by regret day and night, unable to sleep. Later, you even start hallucinating, convinced he's always by your side.
You don't panic. You accept the hallucination, pretending he never left.
He stays with you as you fire your first bullet and kill your first monster. He faces death with you, watches you gather a group of followers, then sees you betrayed, covered in blood and on the verge of death.
You lie awake all night because of the blood, unable to close your eyes from fear. But he's always there beside you, joking as if without a care in the world and encouraging you without a trace of gloom.
That night, you finally understand that maybe you feel more for him than friendship.
Maybe you never saw him as just a friend to begin with.
More desperately than ever, you wish he could come back to life. You want the world destroyed and everything to start over. You can't understand why he died while those vile, scheming wretches are still alive. You want to become a god. You want rivers of blood. You want everyone to fear you and keep their distance, even if they see you as a monster. You only need him.
You give your life in exchange for the world starting over.
