Luo Wenshui, the eldest son of a beast-taming family in the lower realm, was a good-for-nothing who had remained at the Qi Refining stage for twenty years without reaching Foundation Establishment. His sect doted on and protected him, and he couldn't be bothered to cultivate. He didn't care if he had no spirit stones. He spent lavishly, content to laze around and enjoy himself without striving for anything.
One day, he wandered into the forbidden mountain range behind his sect and found a dying little fox.
To earn spirit stones and buy spiritual medicine to save the little fox, Luo Wenshui, a fluff fanatic, was forced to get out of bed. He roused himself to take on assignments and enthusiastically signed up for the sect competition. His friends and family all told him not to waste his time: with his barely entry-level cultivation, he wouldn't earn any spirit stones at the sect competition, and would only get himself killed.
Luo Wenshui simply smiled, unconcerned. Armed with a lowest-grade spiritual sword, he claimed first place, leaving everyone in disbelief.
But once he began to show his talent, his former friends and family bared their fangs. Gravely wounded and on the brink of death, Luo Wenshui fought his way out, bloodily carving a path to survival.
On a high platform, fierce winds howled. Blue lightning split the sky. Covered in blood, he broke through the Heavenly Gate of the lower realm and soared upward. The first person he saw was a handsome man with black hair and black clothes, his face pale.
The man reached out to wipe the blood from Luo Wenshui's cheek, fed him a spiritual medicine rumored to bring the dead back to life, then helped him stand and said quietly, "Come with me."
Luo Wenshui was bewildered. "Oh... But who are you?!"
"The fox you raised."
Luo Wenshui: "!"
His mind snapped into focus. He took a step back, his expression changing as he pointed at the man and shouted, "You're that unfaithful fox who got better and then ran off without even saying a word?! You, you!! You..." His finger trembled as he stammered. Then his fluff obsession got the better of him, and he gave in. "You... How about you turn into a fluffy little fox first?"
Yan Xiu, anxious to explain that he hadn't left on purpose: "..."
Everyone in the upper realm knew that Yan Xiu, Master of the Star-Picking Pavilion, was cold in both face and heart, with astonishing cultivation. He was not someone to provoke lightly. No one expected that after enduring the nine stages of heavenly tribulation, he would not ascend to the Three Thousand Worlds. Instead, he suppressed his cultivation and went to the Heavenly Gate to meet a handsome young man from the lower realm.
A few days later, Yan Xiu publicly announced that the graceful young cultivator was his Dao companion.
Luo Wenshui: "?! Dao companion?! Aren't you the fox I raised?"
After that, Luo Wenshui couldn't leave that room for three days.
Later, whenever Luo Wenshui slacked off and tried to laze around again, Yan Xiu would carry him to that bed.
Luo Wenshui would immediately turn pale with fright, leap up, and bolt for the door, shouting, "I'm going into seclusion to cultivate for a month! No fox demons allowed! Don't disturb my cultivation and ascension!"

Important notes:
1. Yan Xiu had an unavoidable reason for leaving after recovering from his injuries.
2. The events in the blurb, from the lower realm to the upper realm, don't actually count as ascension yet. He'll ascend later! In this story's world, the lower realm sits beneath the upper realm, and those who ascend from the upper realm go to the Three Thousand Worlds. A bow!
3. If I think of more, I'll add it. Orz
