Ji Yu never thought she would see Cheng Yeshu again.

Things between them had ended badly back then.

The man's face was stern, and the air around him was even colder than it had been in high school. His gaze, full of possessiveness, fixed on her.

At the time, Ji Yu was being pestered by a blind date and was so embarrassed she wanted the ground to swallow her.

She thought Cheng Yeshu would simply walk away, but he came over to help her out, took hold of her slender wrist, and pulled her into his arms.

Ji Yu was about to thank him when Cheng Yeshu's cool voice came from above her head. "Found someone new?"

Ji Yu froze for two seconds, then slowly looked up. Her eyes met Cheng Yeshu's arrogant phoenix eyes, just as they had been in high school.

"I thought you were so devoted. You wouldn't even break up when I told you to."

A single glimpse of Ji Yu in high school had left Cheng Yeshu fascinated for years.

After all these years apart, now that they had met again, he decided to use a few tricks to keep this "canary" who had looked down on him since high school.

In the presidential suite on the top floor of a hotel.

A cigarette between his fingers, Cheng Yeshu watched Ji Yu in silence, his eyes frighteningly dark.

After a long moment, he narrowed his eyes and looked through the wisps of smoke at Ji Yu, standing ramrod straight by the bed.

Cheng Yeshu studied every expression on Ji Yu's face, his thin lips curving into a faint smile. "As I recall, Miss Ji not only rejected my proposal in no uncertain terms yesterday, but also called me a scoundrel."

Ji Yu met his gaze without backing down. "And aren't you?"

Cheng Yeshu lowered his eyes and let out a quiet laugh.

Then he stood and walked toward her, step by step. He firmly wrapped an arm around Ji Yu's waist and felt her tremble.

He leaned close to her ear and murmured, "Mm. Didn't you think that back in high school?"

"A scoundrel wants you. Can you really say no?"

Keeping a canary comes at a high price.
