After All These Years

Xiao Fu has lost her memory.

She finds a diary in the bedroom. It records all the little moments of her relationship with Sui.

Sui is her husband.

The diary says they went through the awkward years of high school together, were separated by distance, and then, by a twist of fate, reunited in college after a breakup. After graduating, they started a business while renting a small house in New York. Finally, in a country where divorce was not allowed, they got engaged. They embraced beneath a magnificent sunset, surrounded by the blessings of strangers.

She can't remember any of it, but still finds herself weeping as she reads.

She thinks she is grieving because she has forgotten something beautiful. Later, she realizes it is because those beautiful memories do not belong to her.

She is merely the unfamiliar female classmate in their high school memories, a passerby they once brushed past in college, an acquaintance who liked their engagement post, and an anonymous online stranger who submitted a story about a crush that went nowhere.

The diary's owner is not her.
