The Mad Dog Is Hard to Tame

Wen Jing, the beloved daughter of the chief secretary, had grown up pampered. Beautiful and spoiled, she was famous throughout the capital.

Back then, she had abused her power and flouted all rules, treating Xiao Tong, the unpopular illegitimate son of the Minister of Revenue, like a dog and making him call her Master.

Now, however, that illegitimate son had become the former dynasty's crown prince and rebelled. In a single night, blood flowed through the palace, inside and out. To prove their allegiance, the terrified officials seized Wen Jing and presented her to the new emperor for his amusement.

Once everyone had left, Wen Jing knelt on the ground, her face deathly pale.

The red candles flickered. From behind layer upon layer of curtains, Xiao Tong emerged at a leisurely pace, his robes trailing through the blood and leaving streaks of red across the floor. He bent down slightly, his pale hand gliding over Wen Jing's thin collar before tipping up her sharp chin in feigned tenderness. "Why have you gotten so thin, little master?"

Wen Jing shuddered.

He leaned close to her ear, his breath brushing her snowy-white neck. "Will you be able to take it later?"
