Several thousand years ago, the elders of the Yao Clan and the founding patriarch of the Demon Hunters shared a breathtaking, passionate, life-and-death love story.
From then on, the Yao Clan had a rule: Their descendants must cause one small problem after another in the human world, so that every descendant of the Demon Hunters would always have work to do.
The little yao, Huali, clicked her tongue in admiration. "Wow! The elder really is the elder. Even a forbidden romance between a human and a ghost can be turned into something so wholesome~"
When she came of age, Huali diligently set about her targeted assistance program:
Steal the last egg from a chicken coop, leaving the hen with nothing to hatch!
Pick up every pebble by the riverbank, so no one can skim stones across the water!
Buy the peddler's last piece of candy, making the child burst into tears!
After successfully causing one little problem after another, Huali laughed with her hands on her hips. She really was a damn little genius at doing evil!
...But speaking of which, where was the Taoist who needed her targeted assistance?

The Demon Hunters' ancestral precepts say: Pair each descendant of the Demon Hunters with a yao, one to one. In front of humans, the demon hunter must pretend to punish the yao while secretly going easy on them, so that every yao can cause trouble without worrying about the consequences.
As a disciple of the Demon Hunters' sect, Zong Jing solemnly vowed to keep his word: "The founding patriarch gave his command, and I shall obey."
After a long search, Zong Jing finally found the yao fate had matched him with, a little macaque yao...
She had just crawled out of a chicken coop with her hair sticking up like a mess of chicken feathers. Her pockets were so full of pebbles that she could barely walk, but she still stubbornly made her way to the village entrance to buy candy.
Zong Jing fell into deep thought.
Zong Jing remained silent for a long time.
Zong Jing took out a copper coin and paid the furious chicken farmer who had chased after them.
- One-on-one romance, happy ending.
- Come on, let's be silly~
- More or less a story about an assistance-program intern and an insurance claims adjuster.
