The Fool's Little Husband

Su Yang was saddled with a terrible match: he was to become the husband of the simple-minded son of the Li family at the end of the village.

The Li family's son was as strong as an ox and quick-tempered. He even hit his own father.

Su Yang was terrified.

On their wedding day, a scrap of cloth covered his head. His legs were weak, tears streamed down his face, and he couldn't walk.

Li Qingfeng suddenly barged into the room. Su Yang curled up in fear, bracing for a beating. But Li Qingfeng had come to carry him over the threshold, and told him not to be afraid.

Su Yang married into the Li family and lived in constant fear, asking for nothing but enough to eat and hoping his simple-minded husband wouldn't hit him.

But the more he tried to avoid him, the more the man clung to him. He caught fish for him, snared wild rabbits, and handed over all his money for Su Yang to manage.

Su Yang ate his fill every day and put on some weight. When he tried to help with the farm work during the busy season, his silly husband carried him back home.

Li Qingfeng laid a big hand on his belly and said, with childish stubbornness, "You get nice and plump and have the baby. I'll get big and strong and work the fields."

Su Yang smiled shyly and added another bowl of rice to dinner.

He would make himself nice and plump, make his man big and strong... and then have a child.
