Blurb for A Fake Story:

In the summer of 2019, after spending eleven years being known as Zhuang Ding's childhood friend, Zhuang Ding solemnly prepares flowers and a gift, then tentatively says to Cheng Wanyi:

"We said we'd go to university in the same city."

The wind rustles through the treetops, soft and refreshing, but Cheng Wanyi's answer is as cold as a blade:

"Staying in Jiangling to attend military academy is the best choice for you."

Her words are a double insult. First, she rejects Zhuang Ding outright and treats their old promise as a joke. Second, she belittles Zhuang Ding, who is qualified to attend a prestigious university, by saying he's only good enough for a local military academy with a very low admissions score for boys.

In an instant, the wind dies and the lights go out. A bouquet of daisies, left behind by who knows whom, lies in the roadside bushes.

Seven years later, at their school reunion, Cheng Wanyi, who always boasts that she can hold her liquor, is so dizzy after one glass of Long Island iced tea mixed incorrectly that she nearly falls headfirst into the sink. A strong arm catches her from behind.

She raises her head unsteadily and, half-asleep and half-awake, sees his upright figure in the mirror above the sink. Suddenly, she grins:

"Zhuang Ding."

"I've missed you so much."

Because I miss you, and because I want you to be happy for the rest of your life, we should never see each other again.

There's nothing more to say. I only hope you're happy.
