[The library's specific details are inspired by Library of Ruina from Project Moon, but the plot is unrelated.]
[I will always love Library of Ruina!]
Q: "Miss Shui Wuyue, what do you think about making friends with people, returning to the library, then tricking the people who came to avenge you into becoming books?"
A: "We usually call that fishing."
The outer universe! The outer universe! The greatest and most evil world-ending organization! The Olden Library has gone bankrupt! You bastard, Director Qin! One arm around the secretary, the other around the consultant! You got Councilor Eggsy banned along with you!
There's nothing we can do! Nothing, nothing, nothing we can do! We take books as payment! Books that used to cost a universe, a world, a planet now all cost one life! One life each!
We solemnly promise! We solemnly promise! We only do small-scale business! Everything is completely voluntary! No cheating, no cheating! We would never toy with anyone's feelings!
Unless it's fishing (background noise)
You bastard, Director Qin! You're not, you're not, you're not human! Give me back my superpowers!
The year 2015.
A massive library hidden in the mist appeared without warning in the very heart of Yokohama.
The sign above its entrance bore the characters meaning "olden days," and the library's wheelchair-bound director called herself Qin Qiandeng.
Countless people risked their lives in an attempt to uncover the truth about the Olden Library, never realizing that their deaths were exactly what the library wanted.
Those who die inside the library have their bodies, knowledge, and memories turned into readable "books."
"We came here to collect the books I need."
"Then I'll use those books as signposts to find the one and only Book of Truth that can lead us to freedom."
And to recover the books made from their loved ones...
The strongest man, white-haired and blue-eyed, clasped his hands together, his smile dazzling.
"Moshi moshi. I came right over as soon as I got the invitation. I don't want things to get ugly here, so could you all be reasonable and give me back the book made from my dead friend?"
The white-haired artificial intelligence pulled out a plasma pistol and drew out his words with a malicious, lighthearted lilt.
"Nooo, I don't wanna."
The fox-eyed man working off his debt in the Technology Section sneezed.
The black-haired, raven-eyed boy, still a mystery, seemed as lifeless as a pool of stagnant water.
"I came here at your invitation for one purpose only: to find the book made from my dead friend."
The dark-blue-haired girl wore an ill-fitting long men's coat. Her hoarse voice came out word by word, with broken pauses like a malfunctioning machine. Her dark green eyes held no light.
"Directive. Conveyed. Eradicate... everything."
The red-haired man, who was in the Literature Section having lunch plans with Librarian Nanshan Quan and discussing writing, choked on his spicy curry for no apparent reason.
The white-haired secretary smiled vacantly, the empty sockets of her eyes exposing bone.
The black-haired consultant wore a compassionate expression, roses blooming from the gaping hole in her chest.
"Welcome, honored guests, to the Olden Library." The brown-haired director sat in her wheelchair, leaning forward and lowering her gaze to greet her visitors. Her deep-blue eyes were as fathomless as the sea. "May you find the book you seek."
Only murmurs came from behind the scenes.
"...Why are we copying Miss Angela's lines?"
"Shh. The director hardly ever feels like messing around, so let's play along, Councilor! Why are you hitting me?"
"You must be protecting your wife, damn it, why am I getting hit when I'm telling the truth? Councilor! That's too much! You're not only ditching your friends for a pretty face, you're a hypocrite too, Ow!!!"
"I solemnly swear:"
"I willingly become a member of the Olden Library."
"I will be help that asks for no reward in times of hardship. I will share in my companions' joys and sorrows when danger comes."
"I will conceal nothing about my past."
"I will place my trust in my companions without hesitation, for our present, and our future."
Reader's Guide:
1. A group transmigration story. The characters have different loyalties and ways of doing things, and many are morally ambiguous. The heroine is the library's one and only designated darling and consultant, Shui Wuyue Mian. Her pairing is undecided, and there may not be one.
2. The plot has no logic, the characters are out of character, and the author's writing and intelligence are terrible. If anything contradicts the original setting, treat this as a parallel world.
3. A story about tormenting the characters. Those who aren't tormented early on are either the author's favorites or simply haven't had their turn yet.
4. Everyone is a drama queen. Various love-triangle showdowns often revolve around the consultant. Whether they're real or not is up to you.
5. There are also side pairings among the library members. So far, the only confirmed couple is Councilor Eggsy and Director Qin Qiandeng.
Theme: Knowledge is power, but knowing how to use it is even more important.
