My Cheat Is Another Version of Me

In the year 3145, humanity entered an age of secondary evolution.

To accommodate their dramatically increased brain capacity, some people evolved stronger bodies, while others simply developed additional appendages. For example, Le Yan's desk mate had two heads, each capable of thinking independently.

Which kind is Le Yan, you ask?

Well... she's one of the people who didn't evolve...

The other Le Yan thinks completely independently and acts entirely beyond her control. Aside from looking about seventy percent like her and also being called Le Yan, this other self is of no use to her at all. Oh, right, unlike her, this one is male.

Her childhood friend, Yu Tianshi, stared at the two identical-looking people, momentarily dazed.

"You're both Le Yan?"

"Obviously," they answered in unison.

"Then how am I supposed to tell you apart? Male Le Yan and female Le Yan?"

Both Le Yans twitched at the corners of their mouths.

"You call her A-Yan, don't you? Just call me Le Yan."

Female Le Yan kicked him. "In your dreams!"

Yu Tianshi scratched his head as he watched the two Le Yans fight each other.

"Then let's call you A-Le and A-Yan."

Le Yan thought her life would keep going to hell like this, until one day she noticed her desk mate changing strangely. He went from looking a little unfamiliar to her to looking completely unfamiliar.

She'd bet her life on the limited-edition sneakers Yu Tianshi had just bought: the person inside her desk mate's body had definitely been replaced. At first she kept this anomaly to herself. Then the entire class, and eventually the whole school, rapidly changed. Everyone had been replaced. Even the finance minister on the news had developed different habits.

Le Yan was so anxious that her period was nearly irregular, but she didn't dare show it, because someone wrapped his arms around her from behind.

"You noticed something, didn't you? Hmm? My dear A-Yan."

Because if this had something to do with evolution, then she had another self, too.

What would happen to her? Would she be killed?

"You look like you've thought of something interesting. Why not tell me about it?"
