Synopsis:
After retiring from figure skating due to an injury, Ren Yi returned to her hometown to coach ice dance.
The rink was small, but a woman came every day. Dressed lightly and wearing skates, she would quietly watch Ren Yi from the rink.
Sometimes in silence, sometimes with a smile.
She skated now and then, but could barely stay upright.
Ren Yi caught the woman as she was about to fall, avoided her gaze, and said coolly, "Don't come again."
After being away for years, Ren Yi had long forgotten He Ruanqiu's warmth.
But back then, she was nineteen, and she had once dreamed of spending the rest of her life with He Ruanqiu, who had just turned twenty-nine.
Unfortunately, the other woman had left without a word, abandoning her in the early winter of the Northeast, where there was no snow, only cold winds.
*
She never expected to meet He Ruanqiu again at her father's wedding.
Ren Yi drained her glass of celebratory wine and politely called her "Stepmom."
The woman wore bridal makeup, graceful and delicate, as pure as untouched snow. But when their eyes met, she fell silent.
That night, the woman knocked on her bedroom door.
She sat on Ren Yi's lap, her silk nightgown spilling around her, her eyes red. She kissed Ren Yi, now urgently, now slowly.
She begged Ren Yi not to ignore her.
"Won't Dad get angry?" Ren Yi simply turned her head and smiled faintly.
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the mark on He Ruanqiu's waist.
The woman who had seemed solemn and gentle by day had willingly fallen into depravity, tattooing several butterflies on her waist.
Ren Yi only remembered how she and He Ruanqiu had held hands and danced on the ice.
After they shared a brief, tender kiss, the woman's lashes trembled as she praised her in a soft voice:
"Xiao Yi, on the ice, you're like a butterfly."
*
He Ruanqiu thought of herself as a pile of fallen leaves, damp and rotting in autumn.
But Ren Yi was the spark on the fuse, evaporating the hidden tide and setting her ablaze until she boiled over.
Like a bright, vibrant butterfly, she didn't love flowers, but chose to alight on withered leaves.
With a single graceful leap, she stirred up a vortex that had been lying dormant for years in He Ruanqiu's heart.
