A Kiss on the Neck

*Sharp-tongued bottom vs. self-deluding top

He Shixu has a secret: he's in love with his good friend Qin Wenting.

Qin Wenting is smart, handsome, and full of himself. He's a straight-laced rich kid whose only advice to a sick person is to 'drink more hot water,' but he'll still accompany He Shixu to eat steaming bowls of spicy noodles in an alley on a stormy day.

In a fit of adolescent bravado, Qin Wenting pulls He Shixu into a sworn brotherhood, declaring that they should become friends willing to die for each other.

He Shixu snuffs out the first sprout of his crush. He won't ruin their friendship.

They make it through chaotic classes and fiery military training together, feel the sea breeze at their coming-of-age ceremony, and watch other people experience the awkward sweetness of young love... He Shixu thinks they'll keep each other company like this for the rest of their lives.

Until summer vacation ends, and Qin Wenting disappears.

When they meet again, He Shixu is an intern at a law firm, while Qin Wenting is the new boss, freshly arrived to take the helm. Neither of them is the dopey kid they used to be.

Neither expects to pick up where they left off. They avoid each other when they cross paths, never speak, don't help when the other falls, and don't even look at each other in court. Even at team-building events, they manage to avoid speaking directly.

Who could have guessed that after a few rounds of drinks, the dizzy young boss would cling to the new hire, whining and insisting on going home with him?

He Shixu reminds him, 'We broke off our friendship.'

Qin Wenting, drunk and teary-eyed, says, 'But I miss you.'

The next day, back at the office, his coworkers tease He Shixu: 'Why didn't you tell us you knew the boss?'

The new hire, Xiao He, buttons his shirt up to the top: 'We don't. We're not close.'

They were only sworn brothers, after all.
