Zhao Yuanjing had a beautiful, gentle cousin who treated him well and always had his best interests at heart.

His cousin was terrified that someone might bully him, so any ministers who spoke harshly to him were sent to the Imperial Prison.

His cousin said that he was the emperor, and even his own family might covet his throne. So he drove his maternal uncle out of the country, just to make his cousin smile.

Later, everyone called him a tyrant, but he didn't care. His heart belonged only to his cousin.

But his cousin turned around and agreed to marry Prince Huai'an, the man who had forced him to abdicate. She was still as gentle and charming as ever when she smiled and told him she was doing it for his sake, willing to marry Prince Huai'an to secure his throne.

But he had clearly heard Prince Huai'an say that he and his cousin had conspired together. Once he was dead and Prince Huai'an ascended the throne, his cousin would become empress.

His cousin had the face of a bodhisattva, but a heart as poisonous as a demon's.

Xiao Yuerou was the nominal cousin of the new emperor of Wei. Her aunt had died in the palace, and before her death, she told Xiao Yuerou that the new emperor's mother had killed her.

Step by step, Xiao Yuerou lured the new emperor into doing evil.

At last, she got what she wanted, pushing the new emperor into the abyss. All she had to do was wait for Prince Huai'an to ascend the throne, then take her place in the imperial harem.

On the day she married Prince Huai'an, torrential rain poured outside.

Zhao Yuanjing stormed into the wedding hall with his troops. In full view of everyone, he hacked Prince Huai'an to death with a flurry of sword strikes. Then he strode over to Xiao Yuerou and clamped a hand around her neck. His eyes bloodshot, he grinned.

"You look beautiful as a bride, Cousin. What a pity you don't deserve it. You only deserve to be the bird in my cage."
