On the eve of a rainy night, a fire broke out in a quiet courtyard house in the middle of bustling Jia'an, trapping Zhao Ruyue inside.

Her boyfriend of just over a month hurried over. When he saw Zhao Ruyue rescued, he showed no concern at all. Instead, he blamed her for ruining a night of pleasure.

Their families had introduced them, and they'd started dating for the sake of mutual interests. She acted as if she hadn't heard his impatience.

Not long after, a firefighter in a blue uniform emerged from the smoke.

The man at the front was tall and broad-shouldered, with deep-set features. He was also the first love Zhao Ruyue had dumped.

When Fu Yan walked up to them, her boyfriend finally stopped complaining. Fu Yan's gaze settled on Zhao Ruyue without a change in expression as he told them the fire had been put out.

Zhao Ruyue stood there in a daze, nodding woodenly.

A livestream from Jia'an Fire and Rescue set social media ablaze. Captain Fu's relationship was dramatically "exposed," and the whole internet was heartbroken.

In the screenshot, the tall, upright man wore his flame-blue uniform and gazed tenderly down at the woman beside him. Zhao Ruyue knew that look of concern, yet it felt as if it belonged to another lifetime.

Not long after, Zhao Ruyue waited outside the rescue fire brigade's headquarters until Fu Yan came out.

Fu Yan looked down at the red-eyed woman, his gaze indifferent. His voice carried a note of mockery. "Miss Zhao, I hear you were looking for me?"

Zhao Ruyue clutched his sleeve and nodded through her sobs.

"Fu Yan, I'm here to steal you away."

Not long after they got back together,

Fu Yan went to a flood rescue site, and Zhao Ruyue went with him without telling him.

He was soaked through and so cold that his hand trembled as he held a bowl of ginger soup. She ran to him in tears and held the bowl up to his lips.

A smile danced in Fu Yan's eyes. "Didn't I tell you to stay home and not go running around? You lied to me again?"

He sighed indulgently, his gentle voice trembling a little.

"Are you mad?"

"I'll change my clothes, then make it up to you, okay?"

Zhao Ruyue loved it most when Fu Yan held her.

She said, "A hug is the most wonderful thing in the world. Every time you hold me, I feel like no matter what I become, you'll accept all of me and love all of me."

Later, holding her became Fu Yan's favorite thing too.
