My Bastard Partners

“This is the Soji, reporting in. Before refitting, our ship could haul up to a million tons of cargo. After refitting, we carry only a two-digit crew. I assure you, every member of our crew is a regular on the planetary blacklist. Our ship has been on the planetary red list for years, and we enjoy a tax rate three times higher than that for ships with normal clearance. There are no normal people aboard, but everyone is good at what they do. We’re never reliable, but we’re not psychopaths. You can trust every crew member’s mental state. We stake what little morality we have on it. We take any bounty or partnership, and we have no moral requirements. Depending on what you need, you can hire a bunch of bastards or a band of heroes. As long as you’re willing to pay. This is the Soji’s wave-frequency code. We await your contact.” This number has left the public bounty channel. This number has reentered the public bounty channel. “One more thing: we’re still recruiting crew. Bounty hunters preferred, especially bastards and scoundrels. Don’t ask about the salary. Room and board only.” Pretending to Be a Copywriter An episodic story, one planet, one tale. There is no sound in space, only loneliness, death, and desperation.
