Because the organization was short-staffed, mercenary Shi Song was forced to take on an undercover mission. Used to living by the blade, she now had to spend every day at the Earl's residence acting as if her stepmother bullied her mercilessly. She also had to marry the short-lived general Duan Yuge to bring him good luck.
Shi Song: That's way too big a sacrifice!
On their wedding day, Shi Song said meekly, "Darling, I can't stand the sight of blood."
Duan Yuge was surprisingly accommodating. "Sweetheart, I'm impotent."
Shi Song was delighted. "Then... separate bedrooms?"
Duan Yuge: "Agreed. Good night."
Married life turned out to be unexpectedly comfortable. By day, Shi Song was a rich wife; after dark, she went hunting. She didn't have to fulfill her marital duties and even got two salaries.
Shi Song: Thanks to my fake husband, my life is fulfilling and full of purpose!
One day, she realized that whenever she went on a mission, some force was backing her up.
Her odds of survival improved, but she lost the joy of getting kills on her own.
One morning, while they were having breakfast together, they happened to see a news report on the front page: an arms dealer belonging to one of the capital's criminal gangs had been assassinated.
Shi Song: "That sniper is incredible! One shot to the head!"
Duan Yuge: "Wasn't he blown up?"
Shi Song, furious: "He was shot by a sniper!"
Duan Yuge remembered the drone footage that had come in the previous night, showing Shi Song happily shooting the already cold corpse again and again, clearly furious that someone had stolen her kill.
"All right, he was shot," General Duan said tactfully.
-
Shi Song: the second daughter of the Earl's family, who was not well-liked and suffered from severe hemophobia.
Duan Yuge: a retired general, paralyzed from the neck down, frail and sickly, with a bedside table full of critical-condition notices.
The day the two married, the capital was full of people celebrating. The Earl's family was delighted to finally have their illegitimate daughter out of the house, while the Ministry of National Defense was happy to have planted a spy beside the Empire's Spear. Everyone was waiting for Duan Yuge to die and for Shi Song to be widowed and left destitute.
But later, the evil forces were completely wiped out, and the Empire's fortunes changed.
#Who on earth set these two big villains up together?!
The blurb needs a rewrite. Mr. and Mrs. Smith in space.
