General, Can You Hear the Begonias Speak? (Reborn)

An older story, revised

In her previous life, her husband betrayed her, and war raged through the capital.

As she lay dying, Chu Ruoyu reached out to the frail legitimate son of the Marquis's household, whom she had once run away from marrying. Now he was the general who had killed his father and murdered the emperor.

She never expected him to save her. Even after being reborn and choosing to marry him, it was only because she saw the immense power he would wield in the future. She wanted nothing more than to change the fate of her entire family being wiped out.

The legitimate son of the marquis's household is no longer the demon she once imagined. He's just a sickly man, a "legitimate son" despised by the marquis and scorned by the servants, who blushes scarlet when she teases him a little.

Later, she sees him calculating the value of every life with cold precision, and watches him return with a blade in hand through a torrential downpour.

She thinks, A demon is still a demon. I should never have pitied him, and I must never give him my heart.

But even with blood on his hands, he immediately washes them clean, then begs her, "Why are you always afraid of me...?"

His wife before him is gentle and virtuous, and they treat each other with respect, but she has never truly loved him.

"I want to make a wager with my wife, and trade something for it. Will you agree, Yu'er?"

"I want power so great that no one would dare bully me."

"I'll spend my life on the battlefield and give you a lifetime of splendor. All I ask is for your sincere love."

She sees her former-life husband crouch down and lift her corpse into his arms, his tears melting the snow. "If you meet the person I used to be, don't worry that I won't love you."

She only smiles gently. "Husband, don't you dare forget our wager."

This older story has been revised. The overall plot and the characters remain the same, but some scenes and pacing have been adjusted. Don't read pirated copies, or you'll find the story completely different.
