When a Retired System Became a Hades Office Temp

1.

In a narrow alley in the old part of B City

there was a strange office.

It had no sign and no introduction,

yet somehow, people came and went without end.

A sheet of paper was placed lightly on the desk. The staff member did not even look up.

"For reincarnation, turn left. For revenge, turn right. Vengeful ghosts filing a report, please register at the front desk."

"Excuse me, sir."

The warm, clear voice carried a hint of laughter. The staff member looked up in confusion and saw a face so handsome it was practically against the rules.

"I'm here to apply for a job."

2.

A new employee had joined the Old City Branch of the Underworld Headquarters in B City. He was pale, thin, and weak as anything, yet he actually wanted to work in the field.

"Underworld regulations state that ordinary people cannot work in the field."

"I'm not an ordinary person."

The young man explained earnestly, his gaze calm.

"You are an ordinary person."

Patiently, the staff member took out the Book of Life and Death for him.

"Only ordinary people have their names recorded in the Book of Life and Death."

As he spoke, the staff member glanced at the information in the book.

Lin Lin, lifespan: 26, died by accident, happy family, husband...

The Book of Life and Death snapped shut. The staff member broke into a beaming smile.

"Mr. Lin, it would be our office's honor to have you work in the field."

3.

On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, the gates of the underworld swung wide open.

Lin Lin warily watched the evil ghost before him and pulled a ghost-catching card from the System Shop.

But the card, which had always worked without fail, was useless. The next moment, a cold body pressed against Lin Lin from behind.

"Excuse me."

Chilling air swirled around them. The evil ghost's voice was unexpectedly pleasant.

"Have you seen my wife?"
