Taboo: Double Substitute Reversal [Gintama]

I’ve lost my memory. All I remember is that my name is Shiyu and that there’s a child I have to take care of. The proprietress of a bar, one of Kabukicho’s Four Heavenly Kings, takes me in with a gruff but kind heart and hires me to work at her place. Life is happy and carefree. Even the fact that the curly-haired owner of the Yorozuya upstairs is always staring at me strangely doesn’t spoil my good mood. He and the child in my hazy memories both have silver hair, so I’m having a great time using him as a substitute. Until one day, I accidentally discover the Yorozuya owner’s secret... The Yorozuya owner has a secret. He’s never confided it to anyone. Even now, ten years after the war ended, he still feels as though he’s stuck on that rain-soaked battlefield. The deafening sound of rain keeps echoing in his ears from time to time. That is, until the first time he sees the new kid working at his landlady’s shop. Just before he can blurt out a scream about seeing a ghost in broad daylight, the rain echoing in his ears suddenly stops. Shiyu: Do you like me? Gin-san: N-no way! Gin-san would never be interested in a kid like you... It’s just that you look so much like my middle school homeroom teacher. I’m wondering if you might be his illegitimate child or something... Shiyu: It’s fine. You can use me as a substitute, and I can use you as one. We both have a bright future ahead. Warnings: 1. You can tell from the blurb that there are some liberties taken with canon. This is an unconventional substitute romance, with dramatic twists and some of the author’s personal kinks. If it makes you uncomfortable, please stop reading. 2. Original protagonist, bottom protagonist, paired with Gin-san, happy ending. 3. Third-person narration. 4. Updates when inspiration strikes. Blurb uploaded on 2021.7.1. Theme: You taught me to let go of so many obsessions, yet in the rain, you took my hand again.
