[Classic Literature] Back to Of Mice and Men

[Blurb]

Qiao Zhimo, a psychologist with emotional detachment disorder, receives a package with no sender's name.

Inside is a book: Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck's acclaimed work, Of Mice and Men.

It's a boring book, or so Qiao Zhimo thinks.

The story follows two friends who go to work on a farm during the Great Depression in America. The protagonist, George, is constantly held back by his foolish friend Lennie, but he never abandons him, repeatedly encouraging him with their dream of becoming farm owners. But in the end, Lennie still causes a terrible disaster, and though George desperately doesn't want to, he kills him with his own hands.

It's a tragedy, one that Qiao Zhimo considers entirely avoidable. All George had to do was ditch the deadweight in time and enjoy life on his own, instead of letting so-called brotherhood drag him down.+

This cold-blooded way of thinking doesn't change even after Qiao Zhimo transmigrates into a book. So when he leaves the simple-minded Lennie alone by a lake where wolves roam, he still wears a cruel smile.

But three days later, as Lennie's body goes limp in his arms beneath the blood-red setting sun, Qiao Zhimo can no longer smile.

Theme: As long as you don't give up, your dream will come true one day.
