A Thorn in My Throat

Content warnings:

1. Classic overused tropes, melodrama, ABO, and pregnancy.

2. The love interest changes.

3. Whether there will be a happy ending depends on how things go.

We had been married for seven years, and our child was five.

Yet he said he had found true love.

I asked him, "We may have been married for strategic reasons, but do you remember what you said when you proposed to me?"

He was silent for a moment, then said, "I remember. I said we had two choices: an open relationship or staying faithful to our marriage."

I asked again, "Which one did we choose?"

"Staying faithful to our marriage," he said. "We were young back then, and I didn't think I could ever fall in love with anyone."

I couldn't help laughing.

Now that he was no longer young, he had finally blossomed late in life.

Then he added, "Xiaowen thinks he's great, too."

Xiaowen was our child, and even he had taken his father's side.

"Fine. Let's get divorced."

Otherwise, seeing the two of them together would leave a lump in my throat and ruin my appetite.

Who knew that not long after the divorce, he would say he regretted it, and that I was the one he loved all along?

So he came running to beg for my forgiveness.

My life had been great without him, and there was no way I would marry him again. But to my surprise, he brought our child along to play on my heartstrings, and both sets of parents took turns trying to persuade me.

They said, "Every marriage has its ups and downs. It's a good thing if you can get back together. The two of you are so compatible. For the child's sake, and so you can have a stable life, make up soon."

What a joke.

One ungrateful wolf, one little ungrateful wolf, and a whole bunch of people trying to smooth things over. Who could they possibly move?
