Yunzhi moved into the Chen family home when she was sixteen.

Chen Qingyan came home drunk one night. When he woke, Yunzhi was barefaced and panting as she tried to help him into his bedroom.

The girl's warm, soft breath brushed his Adam's apple. His thoughts stirred, and he grabbed her wrist with a laugh. "So attentive. Do you like me?"

On the day the college entrance exams ended, Yunzhi confessed to Chen Qingyan. She wrote her confession on a piece of paper, tucked it into an envelope, and slipped it onto his easel.

The next day, she found the letter in the flower bed beneath Chen Qingyan's window. He had folded it into a paper plane and thrown it into the drizzling rain the night before.

It was soaked through, and the words had blurred.

After starting college, Yunzhi tried hard to keep her distance from Chen Qingyan. Whenever they ran into each other on campus, she treated him coldly and pretended not to know him.

But Chen Qingyan repeatedly cornered her in the practice room, his eyes lowered and his smile teasing. "Didn't you like me?"

Yunzhi shook her head. "I was young and foolish back then."

Yunzhi had studied Kunqu opera since childhood. Her poise and voice were both exceptional, and she was the undisputed dream girl of the guys at the Beijing Academy of Arts.

Chen Qingyan was unruly and defiant, always doing things his own way. Yet he had a strikingly handsome face, cool and aloof in the extreme. The girls at the academy both loved and hated him.

What they didn't know was that Yunzhi and Chen Qingyan went home to the same place every weekend.

In her sophomore year, Yunzhi's teacher recommended her for a variety show themed around traditional Chinese culture. When the show premiered, alumni of the Beijing Academy of Arts all found themselves sitting in front of their computers.

The backstage area was crowded and noisy, but Yunzhi was carefully sheltered in a quiet corner where she could focus on reading the script.

The camera swept past. The young man had sharp features, but a gentle gaze.

The comments all asked: Who's that handsome guy beside her? Can we get his contact info?

After it started trending.

The whole school was stunned. Half a minute later, Chen Qingyan edited his post.
