Ten Letters to Mom

[Blurb] This is the fifteenth day since I died. Mom buried my ashes in a cemetery nestled between the mountains and the water.

My death came so suddenly that I didn't even get the chance to say a proper goodbye to Mom.

After taking care of the funeral, Mom said goodbye to my grandmother and returned home alone. She opened my bedroom door and found my unfinished math drafts and the English test paper we'd just gotten back scattered across my desk.

I hadn't done very well on this test. I ranked fifteenth in my class, five places lower than last time.

I was scared, so I kept putting off showing Mom the test paper and asking her to sign it. And on the fifteenth day after I died, Mom found it.

Mom held my test paper without saying a word.

I thought she'd scold me in her usual cold voice, but this time, she didn't.

She stared at my test paper in silence. After a long, long while, she suddenly broke into heart-wrenching sobs.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

"Delivery!"

It was a letter, the first one I'd written to Mom after my death.
