Call Me Big Sis

[Blurb] A fallen rich kid who has been knocked off his pedestal x a divorced woman who once ruled the scene

[Excerpt 1] The next time I saw him was on the university basketball court. Beneath the leafy trees, sunlight streamed down as he rose onto his toes and leaped lightly. The basketball seemed to sprout wings as it sailed through the hoop.

I stood up and applauded along with all the girls who had gathered to watch him. Suddenly, he turned around. His eyes lit up when he saw me, and when he smiled, I could see the canine tooth at the corner of his mouth.

He waved at me and said, "Hey, big sis."

[Excerpt 2] On a lazy afternoon, I sat on the edge of the bed and slowly pulled on my stockings. Then I stood up and touched up my lipstick in the mirror.

"Want a cigarette, big sis?" he asked, leaning against the headboard.

I nodded.

He held out the cigarette case.

I didn't reach for it. Instead, I gave him a cool glance.

He understood.

So he got up, knelt before me, lit a cigarette, then raised it to my lips.
