Playing the Fall Guy in a Rivals-to-Lovers Story

Then, to avoid becoming a laughable clown in love, Jing Shan urgently steels himself against the idea that anyone could love him. He also reinforces his belief that the leads are only pretending to care about him now, and will truly despise him later.

After that, when the leads demand to know why Jing Shan doesn't believe in their feelings, he says:

"Of course I believe you! But does you loving me now conflict with you loving someone else later?"

When the leads fight until they're battered and bloody for Jing Shan, he says:

In the end, after every attempt to win Jing Shan over goes wrong, the lead top falls into demonic cultivation. At the end of his rope, he pins Jing Shan down in a cave and has his way with him. He thinks Jing Shan will finally believe that he really doesn't love the lead bottom, but the next morning, Jing Shan stubbornly asks:

"You're only doing this because my eyes look like his, aren't you?"

The lead top takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, holding back his anger.
