Selling Western Pastries in Ancient Times

An Xin was a top student who graduated from a prestigious 211 and 985 university. Everyone assumed she would work for a world-famous company. But instead, she packed her bags and went back to her hometown in the countryside, saying she wanted to open a little Western pastry shop. Everyone was stunned.

The old family home had been passed down by her grandparents: a traditional two-courtyard residence with gray brick walls and dark roof tiles, sweeping eaves, carved brackets, a rock garden, and green lotus leaves.

She was very pleased with it. She bought an oven, a hand mixer, and all kinds of baking molds, turning the kitchen into a professional bakery. But the moment she opened the pastry shop, the world changed. Restaurants and teahouses lined the streets, people wore fine silks or rough short jackets, both men and women had long hair, and their speech sounded quaint and literary.

A household registration document appeared out of nowhere on the counter. An Xin opened it and saw: An Xin (female head of household), age fifteen, alone, a two-courtyard home, five mu of land, no fields.

Well, An Xin could only gape in amazement. Her pastry shop had opened straight into ancient times!

But when she walked out the front door, the colorful spinning sign outside the hair salon opposite nearly hurt her eyes.

Fine, then. She'd sell pastries in ancient times by day and return to the modern world at night.

The emperor of the Daye Dynasty loved sneaking out of the palace. One day, he happened upon a little shop and saw its beautiful proprietress. She would make an excellent empress!

An Xin looked utterly disgusted. "I have no interest in sleeping on your hard, rock-solid dragon bed!"

Yan Zhou, shamelessly clinging to her: "My lady, I'll gladly follow you and sleep on that soft, fluffy Simmons mattress."
