I wrote this story quite a while ago. The early part is very quiet and can be a hard slog. The overall pacing isn't great, either.
But I've always wanted to give these two characters an ending, and that's how this story came about. It's far from perfect.
So please bear with me if you've clicked in.
A sunny-on-the-surface, dark-at-heart top × a cold-faced, warm-hearted, extremely short-tempered bottom
At first, Bai Fan noticed Chu Xiao because he wanted to know why someone who seemed to be living well carried the same aura he did.
They both seemed to be struggling in a swamp, close to suffocating and drowning.
As Bai Fan kept crossing the line, unable to control himself, he not only shattered Chu Xiao's seemingly hard but actually tender protective shell and invaded his world, but also inevitably peeled open his own world, little by little, for Chu Xiao, letting a little of his true feelings show.
When Bai Fan grew afraid and tried to hide back in his own dark world, Chu Xiao bravely and steadfastly barged in.
To Bai Fan, Chu Xiao wasn't his light. He believed that as long as Chu Xiao was by his side, one day he would be standing on a bright, open road.
To him, Chu Xiao was the last thread of clarity he had left.
Bai Fan: "Have you seen the abyss behind me clearly?"
Chu Xiao: "Yes."
Bai Fan: "Do you really understand how wretched and hypocritical I am?"
Chu Xiao: "Yes."
Bai Fan: "Are you sure you still want to love me and be with someone like me?"
Chu Xiao: "Yes."
When Chu Xiao lost control, Bai Fan held him tight and said, "Cry. I'll shield you."
He also said, "Chu Xiao, don't entertain thoughts you shouldn't have."
When Bai Fan lost control, Chu Xiao held him tight, too, and said, "Cry. I'll shield you."
He also said, "I can't help you, but I've got a firm hold on you."
The abyss is nothing to fear. At worst, I'll go into it with you.
If Bai Fan still felt even a sliver of gratitude toward this world, it was because it had let him meet Chu Xiao and fall in love with him.
And after that, he had a reason to keep living.
A two-way redemption story, as they become the heavy locks that imprison the "abyss" in each other's hearts.
One-on-one romance, equally matched leads, school setting (old-school college entrance exam system).
My writing can be a little choppy, so please go easy on me. The overall tone is somewhat angsty, but the two of them are very sweet and doting when they're together~
