With her regent chancellor father indulging her and her eight older brothers doting on her, she grew up as The Outcast, second to none but the emperor and superior to everyone else. She became shrewd and domineering, doing whatever she pleased without restraint. Then, in a single day, she fell from grace, a phoenix turning into a wild duck. The noble ladies of the capital held tea parties to celebrate, while the men laughed uproariously and ran around with their robes open, spreading the news. The streets of Chang'an were covered in a foot of firecracker scraps, livelier than New Year's. Among them, of course, were her fiance, Chief Minister Shen Ke, who had her killed by mistake; her childhood friend, the young emperor Sima Geng, who plotted against her; and her political rival Xiao Han, who tried to take her by force and ended up imprisoned instead, along with more than a dozen others. Unexpectedly, Cui Yang came back, even more arrogant than before. She wielded absolute power, getting whatever she wanted. Beneath her residence, she built twelve prison cells, holding half the officials of Dacheng captive. The people were angry and terrified, falling silent and daring not to disobey. Blurb Two: One day, after court, with spring sunshine all around, Cui Yang reclined on a beauty's lap, sipping fine wine as she watched a troupe of beauties dance. In a contented mood, she asked the prison warden, "The secret chambers are buried deep underground, without light or day. After three months, how many have gone mad, and how many have hanged themselves?" The warden replied with an ingratiating smile, "My lord must be joking. You have such a discerning eye. All twelve of the people you locked up are remarkably gifted, and they're all doing just fine. Still, they say they know they were wrong and beg you to give them a chance to apologize..." ■■■■■ Check out my completed novels on the author's page!
