Yuan Shen x Xie Yan

Abrasive on the outside but sincere underneath x spirited, pretending to be gentle

"Peach trees flourish, their blossoms radiant. This bride goes to her new home, where she will bring harmony to her family. As for marriage, if we are in love, it will be icing on the cake. If we can't stand one another, we can just make do."

The Yuan clan of Jiaodong and the Xie clan of Chenjun renewed their ties through marriage. Everyone praised Lord Yuan and Lady Xie as a perfect match, a Lang and Xie couple made for each other, but no one knew of the resentment between them.

Neither was willing to lower their head, and neither wanted to cling to the other. Two people who knew nothing about love eventually parted ways. Yet after separating from Xie Yan and spending a brief time with a woman he admired, Yuan Shen kept dreaming of Bailu Mountain from many years ago.

That day, snow fell like pear blossoms filling the sky. A delicate young woman in a thin red silk dress danced with a three-foot sword, the kind usually wielded by men, and dazzled him.

Only later did he understand that he had liked her all along.

Many years later, while discussing their studies with his children, Yuan Shen casually brought up an embarrassing incident from his youth.

"Once, your father let your mother slip away, then went alone to her residence to beg her to change her mind." Yuan Shen's feather fan swayed gently as the corners of his mouth curved upward.

"And then?"

The bead curtain swayed as an elegant, refined woman lifted it and walked in. Hearing the question, she smiled.

"And then... your father was beaten and thrown out by your maternal grandfather and several of your uncles."
