After ten days of tracking and five days lying in wait, they meet again at a run-down Daoist temple. Zhuo Yingxian presses his greatsword against Nie Yunhan's neck and grits out, "Deputy Commander Nie, fancy seeing you here."

After a fierce fight, Nie Yunhan pins him down and smiles meaningfully. "Easy, don't struggle. Tell Han-ge the truth: who are you, really?"

Whoever he was then, he ended up becoming Nie Yunhan's lover.

Following the clues across the Great Yao, the two of them unravel the layers of mystery before them, only to discover that what seemed like a simple affair was part of a much larger game. They are all just pieces on the board: predicted, manipulated, deliberately led astray.

The protagonists' group has a job similar to that of the Ming dynasty's border scouts, but there are many author-invented details, so no need to dig too deeply into the history. Physician Qin Mi brings a handsome drunk home, and the two end up spending a night together.

That case is like a net designed just for them, opening its monstrous jaws in the darkness, bent on devouring everything.

Unwilling to remain pawns, the two join forces once again, as they did when they were trapped ten years ago, and unravel the scheme set by the mastermind behind it all.

As they piece together the clues, they save others and themselves.

Qin Mi's eyes are flushed and blazing. He laughs softly. "I'm a demon from hell. Are you afraid?"

Mu Tianzhi's burning lips brush against his ear. "How convenient. I'm the one who hunts demons."

Qin Mi turns his head, the tip of his nose brushing Mu Tianzhi's. "And where did the Commander come from?"

A flash of mischief crosses Mu Tianzhi's proud face. "A celestial being from beyond the heavens."
