A connection across the internet, so cherish this bond.
For the first twenty-four years of his life, Shou had lived by the book, following the rules. In all that time, he'd probably told only one lie. Now, to keep that lie alive, he was using every ounce of his ingenuity and effort to pose as an underclassman chatting online with a senior who was a college senior, even though he was already a graduate student.
The “senior” had long, slender, fair fingers and a deep, pleasant voice. He was exactly the type that a lifelong shut-in like Shou, who was deep in the closet, dreamed of. They hit it off right away, and every conversation made them feel more familiar with each other. They began a passionate long-distance relationship across two cities, talking about poetry and literature, then moving on to the philosophy of life. They got along exceptionally well, except that every time Shou brought up meeting in person, he changed the subject.
The gong had spent his first twenty-two years being a shameless flirt, changing partners as often as he changed clothes. After all those years of playing the field, he had finally decided to settle down, only to run into a damn liar. Their online romance was going great, and they talked about everything, but the other guy refused to meet him. He didn't even mind that the guy was gay, and yet the guy still wouldn't agree. Could he be a romance scammer? There was no way he could let that slide.
The day before he planned to track down every detail about Shou and storm over to teach him a lesson, an accident happened. The gong lay unconscious in the hospital for a week. When he woke up, relatives fighting over the family fortune had drugged him into a simple-minded state. He didn't recognize anyone, and all he remembered was that he had someone online. The latest note in his phone read: “He'll be so surprised when he sees me!” Below it were the other guy's school and dorm address.
The gong picked up his phone and threw off the covers.
His family, gathered around his hospital bed, asked with concern, “Where are you going?”
He eyed them warily and pressed his lips together. “To find someone who won't lie to me.”
