A small town in Jiangnan, veiled in mist and rain.
Nan Ya has lived here alone for many years.
The day she meets Jiang Congye, a torrential rain is pouring down. The man leans against a wall, his blood washed thin by the rain. His face is hidden in the shadows, and his voice is hoarse. "Woman, don't come looking for trouble with me."
Nan Ya holds an oil-paper umbrella, her face expressionless. "If you're going to die, do it somewhere else. Don't lie in front of my house and get in the way."
So Jiang Congye moves right into her house.

Jiang Congye was born in darkness. He has seen blades clash and been caught up in the whirlpool of fame and fortune. Yet deep in his heart, there is a secluded paradise.
Nan Ya asks him, "Why haven't you left yet?"
Jiang Congye lounges on the windowsill, listening to the endless rain outside as he reaches out to fiddle with the plants she grows. "I quite like it here."
Later, Jiang Congye leaves without a word. When he returns, the town is still the same, but the girl who always carried an oil-paper umbrella is gone.
Only then does Jiang Congye understand:
The Jiangnan he likes and cannot forget is the one where she is.

After Jiang Congye leaves, whenever anyone asks, Nan Ya calmly answers with just three words: "He's dead."
Eventually, the words reach Jiang Congye's ears. One day, Nan Ya comes home to find the man waiting outside her door, looking cold and lazy. "I heard you've been telling everyone I'm dead, and that you ran off with another man?"
Nan Ya: "..."
"Let me in." Jiang Congye looks down at her. "I won't leave again. I plan to live here with you for the rest of my life."
