Originally titled "The Cannon-Fodder Male Supporting Character Is a Black Lotus." The story is unchanged~
Xia Yunzhi transmigrates into a book. The Heavenly Dao tells her that to stay alive, she must move the plot along and put the main cast through their paces.
It's actually quite simple: she just has to play a sacrificial bride, a witch who keeps male consorts, a little eunuch causing trouble in the imperial palace...
Xia Yunzhi thinks it's a good deal. Play a few cannon-fodder roles in exchange for being reborn, and it's worth it.
But something unexpected happens. Every time she completes a mission, sheds her identity, dies, and is reborn, someone always shows up...
The first time
"I'll kill you, you man-eating demon!"
The protagonist runs a sword through Xia Yunzhi, but she smiles. Great! I'm one step closer to being reborn!
But before she loses consciousness, she sees the pitiful boy she once helped by chance, hands clenched tight and eyes reddening.
The second time,
"I'll kill you, you lecher!"
The protagonist runs a sword through Xia Yunzhi. Great! I'm two steps closer to being reborn!
Before she can even smile, she spots the pitiful boy, who should be unconscious from his injuries, struggling to crawl toward her. His injuries have left him unable to speak, but his eyes look as if they might bleed.
The Nth time,
"I'll kill you, you devil!"
The protagonist swings his sword... and gets sent flying. At some point, the pitiful boy has become a powerful being, so powerful that everyone grovels at his feet. Even the heroine, who once rejected him, now fawns over him.
But he isn't moved at all. His eyes are fixed only on Xia Yunzhi, who once helped him.
"With me here, who dares lay a hand on her?!"
Xia Yunzhi cries. The big shot walks up to her and gently wipes away her tears. "Don't be afraid. I'm here. No one will hurt you again."
Xia Yunzhi: "You're amazing, big shot!"
But inside: "Just let me die. I want to be reborn!"
It isn't until she sees the memorial tombs the big shot has built for her after every "death," each and every grave surrounded by tears he's shed, that she understands: dying is out of the question.
In the Demon Palace, Song Huaizui calmly accepts death. For Xia Yunzhi, he is willing to die.
But at the crucial moment, someone steps in front of him. As he watches her slowly disappear, Song Huaizui is left dumbfounded.
"Huaizui, live well."
Those are the words she leaves behind before she disappears.
But he doesn't obey.
Amid the three thousand formations of the righteous sects, Song Huaizui walks barefoot, casting aside his cultivation and waiting to be cut to pieces. Just before he dies, his eyes red, filled with endless longing, he says, "How could I bear to let you die?"
Reader's Guide:
1. Happy ending.
2. A heroine who frequently changes identities × a pitiful boy in the early chapters, a black lotus later on, a big shot in public and a puppy in private as the male lead.
3. Not a powerful heroine story, nor a conventional cultivation-leveling novel. Lots of original worldbuilding, focused mainly on romance, but with a plot too.
4. The logic serves the plot.
