“In this smoke-filled, dust-choked world, we are all big painted faces.”

The first time Song Shi saw Tang Ge, the little girl was sitting quietly beneath the eaves in a small black dress. She had her head bowed, gazing at a tiny white jasmine flower in her lap.

A breeze blew by, lifting the jasmine and carrying it to Song Shi’s feet. The little girl looked over quietly, her eyes as beautiful as the stars in the night sky.
