Completely at the Mercy of a Con Artist

Geng Wei's fingers clenched tight, his eyes bloodshot. Tears filled his eyes, but not one fell. He stared fixedly at Xiao Chen, trying to make every detail of his face match the person in his memories. But every inch was marred by gaps. No matter how Geng Wei recalled and pieced things together, he couldn't fill in what was missing.

I was the one who wronged you. We were destined never to have a future together. Xiao Chen, what should I do? To you, I am despair and hatred. You should hate me, but you should never have died here.

Geng Wei suddenly remembered how Xiao Chen had smiled so brilliantly that night, beneath the starlight Geng Wei had made for him. His heart was filled, and the pain grew worse. The dull ache left him gasping for breath, and at last he broke down sobbing. He understood what he had done. They were over, completely.

And so, in this prison where white bones turned to ash, one man knelt outside the cell, weeping in agony, while the other lay disfigured and still inside.
