The Pampered Concubine Wins by Doing Nothing

Luo Luo was born poor, yet possessed breathtaking beauty and an irresistible, sensuous charm.

What the Crown Prince loved most was Luo Luo's snow-white, supple skin, her boneless softness, and her seemingly mild temper. She was sweet and demure, letting men do as they pleased, only pleading softly for mercy.

The noblewomen of the capital lined up to marry into the Eastern Palace. Those in the know understood that the Crown Prince kept a beautiful, bewitching mistress who was illiterate, gentle as a bodhisattva, and so discreet she might as well not exist. They looked down on her for it.

They thought Luo Luo had nothing but her looks and wouldn't be favored for long.

They doubted she would live to see the Crown Prince ascend the throne. She might not even make it through the gates of the Eastern Palace.

But Luo Luo continued to laze about every day...

Too tired to attend to the Crown Prince in the morning, she slept until she woke naturally instead of helping him dress.

Too soft-hearted at night to resist, and never one to take the initiative, she made the man patiently teach her in person. Before long, their lessons became a habit.

In her spare time, she tended flowers and dogs. Every three days, the Crown Prince had to come fetch her himself before she would leave her courtyard to shop for the little things young women liked in the capital...

Even on the day she was brought into the Eastern Palace, Luo Luo was asleep in the Crown Prince's arms...

Those who knew called her a mistress. Those who didn't might have thought the Crown Prince was pampering a lazy, precious little darling.

Emperor Beichen devoted his life to good governance and fought with valor, earning praise throughout the realm.

There was just one thing for which he was widely criticized...

It was said that when Emperor Chen was still Crown Prince, the late emperor often praised him as a model prince: humble and courteous, disciplined and resolute.

Who could have guessed that after a single trip to Jiangnan, the Crown Prince would do the one outrageous thing of his life: abduct a poor, helpless silk-washing girl and force her to become his mistress.

From then on, his eyes and heart belonged entirely to this lazy, spoiled little mistress. He couldn't let her go or stay away, and was so utterly smitten that he eventually raised her to the position of empress.
