Half a Lifetime in the Buddha's Dream; Awakening to Memories of You

Woman: Blossoms spread like painted scenes, hand in hand we roam the world. The wind scatters peach blossoms, leaving sorrow in their wake. Beneath the Yellow Springs, I would give my life for you.

Man: I wake from a dream, flowers fall into my heart. Across the Three Realms, she alone is nowhere to be found. The wind sweeps over a land of crimson faces. Peach blossoms are as radiant as when we first met. I turn back suddenly, and she is gone. Everything has weathered into smoke.

She transmigrates in her sleep to a Taoist temple, where the plain vegetarian food is simply impossible to stomach. She sneaks off to a secluded spot for a forbidden snack, only to be caught by him. He says, "Monastics should be compassionate. Why insist on killing it?"

She answers with a perfectly straight face, "In my dream, the Bodhisattva Guanyin entrusted me with helping it ascend to immortality, so that it might become an immortal sooner. How could I be someone who kills without reason?"
