On his first day after transmigrating to Gotham, Edgar sees the Bat-Signal, something he'd only ever seen in comics, and sets himself a goal.
He wants to be Batman's dog (crossed out), assistant.
Edgar figures he has plenty going for him: he's smart, can follow instructions, is already an adult and past the rebellious teenage phase, and has a bunch of other negligible advantages.
"To sum up," Edgar says, "please take me in! Boss! Knight! King! Master! Detective! The greatest Batman in the world..."
Batman himself, accosted out of nowhere: "...No."
The real Robin, standing nearby: "Huh?!"
Despite getting rejected the first time he applies for the job, Edgar doesn't give up.
After all, the comics already said Batman is a big black mother hen (crossed out). If he keeps pestering him, the world's greatest detective will eventually notice his shining qualities!
Edgar is proactive, competitive, and determined to crush the competition (?), until at last he wears down the Big Bat and gets him to say yes.
As he admires Gotham at night from atop a waterspout, wearing his brand-new uniform, a familiar face he hasn't seen in ages drops down beside him, arms folded and looking annoyed.
Familiar face: So when you said you were going to do great things, you meant becoming Batman's Robin?
Edgar: What, didn't you know you have to fight for the chance to be Robin? You get dozens of issues' worth of story material from the get-go, and you get to be Batman's assistant. Don't you have a mentor like that, or have you still not had your first issue, bro?
Sbp: You want to die! What is wrong with you?!
Warning:
1. This is self-indulgent fanfic. Inspired by all the Gotham kids in the comics who seem to have their own Robin uniform. Batman really is popular, huh.jpg
2. The protagonist is, as usual, chaotic good. He was born on the Source Earth, is a Batman-only fan, and has a rather unusual thought process. The pairing is likely to be Sbp. The romance is a small part of the story, with more of an antagonistic, competitive dynamic, featuring a Superman-only fan versus a Batman-only fan.
3. This story has a Robin competition arc. The protagonist really does fight for the role, but his final codename and uniform have nothing to do with Robin. He still succeeds in becoming Batman's assistant.
4. Apologies in advance for any out-of-character moments. The characters' limits are set by the author's intelligence. If anything makes you uncomfortable, please use the exit in the top-right corner.
