Qin Zheng had neither parents nor family from a young age. Fortunately, she met Xiao Yunxi, an immortal lord of the Tianping Sect.
He brought her back to the Tianping Sect, but this master was terribly unreliable. After taking her in, he left her in the care of Bai Yuchen, another sect elder, and then stopped asking after her. He himself was away from home day after day. In the more than ten years since they became master and disciple, they had met only a handful of times.
Qin Zheng thought they would remain strangers forever, but when she was nineteen, something unexpected happened. Though Xiao Yunxi rarely stayed at the sect, he never went away for more than three months. That year, however, he disappeared for a full five months. He didn't even return for Qin Zheng's birthday, nor did he send a gift as he had in previous years.
Worried, Qin Zheng went to ask Bai Yuchen about him. But as soon as she stepped outside, a flash of white light passed before her eyes. When she woke again, she was lying in a ruined temple.
The patter of rain echoed in her ears. Qin Zheng fought down her panic and got up to leave. Before her hand could reach the wooden door, it opened from outside. A youthful-looking Xiao Yunxi and Bai Yuchen stood beyond it, both looking awkward when their eyes met hers.
“Sorry, we didn't know anyone was sheltering from the rain in here. Please forgive us.”
At once, Qin Zheng realized that the two men didn't know who she was. But how could that be? It was understandable that Xiao Yunxi didn't recognize her, but how could Bai Yuchen, who saw her every day, do the same? Could he be playing a joke on her with her master? Or...
After thinking it over, she asked a somewhat impolite question: “How old are you both?”
“Nineteen.” Bai Yuchen smiled as he waved his fan, his face full of youthful confidence.
Qin Zheng, who had somehow returned to an unknown time in the past, shamelessly stayed by their sides. She told them a half-true story about her background and coaxed the two men, who were traveling down the mountain to gain experience, into helping her find a way back.
During their journey, Qin Zheng discovered that Bai Yuchen was just as unserious as ever. But her so-called master wasn't as cold as she'd thought. Along the way, he took care of her in every way, and even blushed when the two of them stood too close.
Qin Zheng began to wonder: Was this really the stern, taciturn master she remembered?
