Opening the next book once I’ve saved up enough favorites
[An uncultured but loaded straight guy gong x a sweet, vain little green tea shou who pretends to be obedient]
Blurb:
Tang Li thinks he must be the most miserable little game character ever. No contest.
Other little characters are either fluffy animals or pretty fairies with wings.
But he’s just an ordinary human, and he’s stuck wearing a basic short-sleeved shirt! Worse still, he’s already been abandoned once.
His previous owner thought he was too ordinary and tossed him straight back into the game.
After that, Tang Li learned his lesson: be good, act pitiful, and know how to pout.
That’s the only way to get picked up by a discerning owner.
As it turned out, his strategy worked beautifully.
His new owner looked very rich, but had terrible taste.
Ugly cups, ugly hats... He brought all sorts of things home, always wearing a proud expression that said, “See how good I am to you?”
Every time Tang Li received a gift, he would obediently flash a smile. “I love it! Thank you!”
Then, deep down, he’d bubble with resentment: Why is it so ugly? Pei Wuyu, are you doing this on purpose?
The worst was that hat...
It was so big it covered half his face, and his backpack was such an awful color he wanted to vanish on the spot.
So he went traveling dressed in the ugliest outfit in the universe, feeling the stares from every direction along the way.
Tang Li thought,
They must all be laughing at me.
Pei Wuyu is so mean!
The worst!
Pei Wuyu had no idea what the little guy was thinking.
All he knew was that he’d never cared this much about anyone in his life.
Everything Tang Li ate, wore, and used was top-of-the-line from the System shop. He bought the most expensive snacks and the best clothes.
Whenever he saw the little guy obediently thank him, he couldn’t help smiling, then adding more things to his shopping cart.
He thought this game was well worth it.
As he spent more and more, Pei Wuyu discovered he could see the little guy’s inner thoughts.
He’d expected to see all sorts of cute little bubbles filled with thanks, kisses, hugs, and hearts.
But instead...
[When is Pei Wuyu going to get his eyes checked?]
Pei Wuyu: ?
[This is so ugly! Why does he keep giving me ugly stuff? The worst!]
Pei Wuyu thought he’d read it wrong. He looked at the little guy again, puzzled. The little guy still had a sweet smile on his face and looked incredibly well-behaved.
He was also saying sweetly, “Tang Li loves it so much! Heart for you!”
And right alongside that, more and more little bubbles popped up, blaming him.
[Pei Wuyu, you’re the worst!]
Pei Wuyu laughed in disbelief.
Oh, so he was a little green tea who said one thing and thought another.
*
Mr. Pei had been acting very strangely lately.
That was the unanimous conclusion of his employees.
Anyone would find it odd to see the usually stern, icy man suddenly smiling for no reason!
What’s more, people noticed that Pei Wuyu had finally ditched the ugly suit he wore all year round. Casual wear, student outfits... He was wearing all kinds of things now, and even tying complicated Windsor knots in his ties.
How was that any different from being possessed?!
Pei Wuyu used to hardly ever touch his phone except for work. Now he kept it on him at all times and checked it every few minutes.
Some even said that Pei Wuyu had developed a gaming addiction and was spending big on in-game purchases.
The reason they gave was this:
A female colleague who was an expert at raising kids in games was summoned to the office by Pei Wuyu, who called her in with a cold expression.
Thinking she’d made a mistake at work, she was instead asked, “What kind of gift should I give the little guy in the game?”
The colleague he asked: ?! I know the answer to this one!
Everyone: ? Mr. Pei, get a grip!
Later, people saw Pei Wuyu finally put his phone down and assumed he’d kicked his phone habit.
But then someone noticed that every day after work, a young man came to pick someone up.
And the person he picked up was their Mr. Pei.
A pretty young man hopped out of the car, pouting as he complained to Mr. Pei. He went up on tiptoe and casually patted Pei Wuyu’s shoulder, telling him to bend down.
Once Pei Wuyu crouched a little, the young man deftly tied a handsome Windsor knot in his tie. Satisfied, he gave Pei Wuyu a kiss, then happily took him home.
Only then did everyone realize they were dating.
Great! Better than spending money on a virtual character!
Only the female colleague who had once advised Pei Wuyu couldn’t shake the feeling that the young man looked awfully familiar. His face, too, seemed strangely familiar.
She stared at the pretty young man for a while, then realized something was off.
Why did he look exactly like the little guy in Mr. Pei’s game?!
