"The Evil Baby"
"Mommy, mommy, mommy..."
Lately, I often have hallucinations. In places where no one else can hear, I hear someone slowly shaping the word "Mommy" with their lips, pushing it out from the tip of their tongue. The long, slender tongue seems to lick the rim of my ear, leaving it wet.
So I made an appointment with the best psychiatrist in Jing City.
The doctor sat in front of me, carefully going over my records. He looked up, pushed his glasses back into place, and asked, "According to your records, you have no family history of mental illness, and you haven't experienced any major emotional upheavals lately... Miss? Are you listening? Miss?"
The doctor questioned me for a long time before I finally heard what he was saying. In that moment, the desperation in my eyes almost spilled out, turning into a few tears that could easily be licked away. I pleaded with him, "Doctor, please help me. Something is seriously wrong with me."
The doctor pushed his glasses back into place again. "Then please describe what's wrong."
I gazed deeply at the doctor and said, "I see a long-haired man in a tight black outfit. He's smiling at me, his eyes a murky green without a glimmer of light, like unpolished emeralds that can steal your soul. The skin he shows is deathly pale, as if he's spent years submerged in a river and just crawled out. His thick black hair is unbelievably long, his brows are long, his eyes narrow, his lips thin and scarlet, and beneath the corners of his eyes..."
Before I could finish, the doctor interrupted me. "Is it just his appearance? What is he doing, for instance?"
I looked at those dark, alluring eyes, swallowed, and said slowly, "Right now, he's sitting on your head, one long leg crossed over the other. He's bending down, cupping my head in his hands, with his fingers probably pressing against my ears. His breathtaking features are twisted with jealousy, and he's talking while his thin, sharp, bright-red tongue coils around my eyelashes."
The man speaking was beautiful in a ghostly, eerie way. He was the baby I had once found, all grown up.
His long brows drooped in a pitiful curve. Gloomily, he said, "Mommy, I'm your flesh and blood, your own child, your one and only... lover. Why do you want to leave me? Did I do something wrong? Come home. I'll be good."
The doctor couldn't hear him or see how excited he was. I could only sit there rigid, barely daring to breathe.
Because he was too good. So good I couldn't take it.
