[Female lead's perspective | Unrequited love turns mutual + healing | Aloof beauty x spirited, mischievous girl]
Xie Kexun heard news of his junior sister's impending marriage three times in his life.
The first time was on the day she was born. As the daughter of the head of the Xuanji Sect, Shi Miaoyin was precious beyond compare. Countless sect envoys came calling, hoping to arrange childhood betrothals between her and their young masters. Some people worried that the sect leader would marry his junior sister off to him.
Xie Kexun thought the idea was ridiculous.
The second time he heard of her impending marriage, he and Shi Miaoyin had already spent seven years together, day in and day out.
Her betrothed didn't think much of her, but the sect leader considered him a good match.
Unwilling to accept it, Xie Kexun pressed his junior sister for an answer, only to hear her say she was willing to marry a man she'd never even met.
The third time he heard the news, he was kneeling in the back mountain to receive his punishment. His junior sister had been caught and brought back to the sect after running away from her wedding, and he was her accomplice.
He thought that as long as she didn't want to marry, he could defy the sect once more and take her far away. But she cried and said she was willing, then told him to take care of himself.
Xie Kexun's heart shattered.
He went down the mountain to gain experience, fell prey to inner demons, and was attacked by evil spirits. Just as he faced certain death, Shi Miaoyin saved him.
His junior sister clung to him and wouldn't let go. “Senior Brother, take me away.”
So Xie Kexun decided he would brave any danger for her.
The sect leader was furious. Xie Kexun gripped his junior sister's hand tightly and said, “You arranged her engagement only to secure the sect's position.”
“Then what if I become the greatest cultivator under heaven?”
He would defeat everyone at the Immortal Dao Tournament and, with the title of the greatest sword cultivator under heaven, marry his junior sister openly and honorably.

Wen Yue is the male lead of a cultivation novel. Born into privilege, he's arrogant and haughty, though upright in character. Fu Lan loves and hates him in equal measure, and often complains about him.
On her first day after transmigrating into a book, Fu Lan got swordsmanship lessons from him.
Just as she started to think she had a talent for it, Wen Yue said succinctly, “You're a novice.”
Fu Lan shot back, “And what kind of bird are you, then?”
A year later, while they were tangled together, Fu Lan threw those exact words back at him.
“Novice.”

Just when Fu Lan thought she wouldn't make it into the inner division of Guixu Academy, she made an astonishing discovery: the talismans in this world were written in simplified Chinese!
And so the cultivation world's first student who excelled at only one subject was born.
With every other subject dragging her down, Fu Lan nearly got expelled from the academy.
Wen Yue had the same problem, though his weakness was talisman arts. The two decided to make up for each other's shortcomings.
Later, when Fu Lan hurt her hand, he prepared wound medicine. When her sword broke, he bought her a good replacement. Whatever Fu Lan needed, he did it for her.
Fu Lan: “No one does favors for nothing. What are you after?”
Wen Yue: “I'm kindhearted, so don't take my generosity for granted!”

In the Nine Profound Immortal Realm, Fu Lan was surrounded by venomous sorcerers, with fragrant butterflies drifting through the air.
Wen Yue thought she'd been struck by a love spell, but had no idea how to ask her about it.
All he knew was that after that, Fu Lan grew close to Jing Xuanyu. They spent every day together, saying strange things he couldn't understand.
At last, unable to contain his restless heart, he cornered Fu Lan.
Wen Yue: “Fu Lan, Brother Jing cultivates the Heartless Dao. Don't go messing with his state of mind.”
If she was going to mess with anyone's sword heart, she should mess with his.
Fu Lan was baffled. “What the hell are you talking about?”
Wen Yue blushed. “...The love spell. I'll help you break it.”
After staring blankly for a moment, Fu Lan finally realized why Wen Yue had been strutting around in front of her like a peacock lately. She laughed until tears came to her eyes.
Wen Yue gritted his teeth. “I'm kindhearted, so don't take my generosity for granted!”
A few things to know before reading
1. I commissioned separate covers featuring the male and female leads, so there's no favoritism toward either of them. I didn't commission a cover featuring them together simply because I haven't found a suitable artist.
2. The female lead is seventeen when the story begins and has already come of age, which was equivalent to adulthood in ancient times. The leads are people of their era and are old enough to marry. There is no underage fetishization.
3. This is a romance-focused story. The plot serves the relationship, and everything makes way for the couple to fall in love. Flirtatious scenes are a normal part of romantic tension. The male lead isn't a pervert, and neither is the author.
4. There are countless great stories on Jinjiang. If this one isn't for you, just click the top-left corner to leave. I hope you find a novel you love.
