Death in Spring

This story is also known as "Me" or "What's Your Name?"

I love four-character titles so much that I changed it to this

Inherited dual perspectives, partly first person. Pairing with Furuya. Bad ending

It's a short story, so no need to worry about content warnings

So I rephrased the question before sending the message.

MIDORI: What is being in love like?

At work the next day, she was much friendlier. During a quiet moment, she started telling me how she had met her boyfriend and how they got together.

I wasn't particularly interested, but I'd just finished the book I was reading, and I had nothing else to keep me entertained. There was no harm in listening to someone's story.

So why had the conversation suddenly taken this turn?

"Miss Kyoko, is there anyone you like? Anyone of the opposite sex you're interested in counts, too."

I was so angry I tossed my phone onto the bedside table.

After calming down for a while, I thought that I shouldn't be angry. He had only failed to pick up on my hint, and hadn't called me out on it. He'd handled it so tactfully. What was there to be angry about?

Fine.

I was furious.

But thanks to the sleeping pills, I still had a good night's sleep.

Good night.

I moved my lips silently.
