The Mountains and Rivers Know My Heart [The Sixties]

Born in 1933, Yu Ying spent her entire life under the shadow of Japanese colonial rule and the constraints of her family.

Fortunately, fate gave her a chance.

With the land newly at peace, she relied on her own stubborn determination to finish her education. Alone, she traveled to a remote county in the north and threw herself into the mining industry she loved.

In an era when everything depended on one's family background, she carefully concealed her talents and never mentioned that she was the eldest daughter of the Jiang family, one of Shandong's Four Great Families. She knew all too well that with her background, she might be able to do other kinds of work, but mining concerned the lifeblood of the nation. It was no game.

Then that man appeared.

He was a battle hero who had returned from the Korean War covered in blood, and a once-in-a-generation flying genius. A graduate of a military academy who had studied in the Soviet Union, he was impeccably connected and someone everyone looked up to.

She thought he might be the best shield. What did it matter whom a woman married? She wanted his respectable background, he wanted her beauty, and they could each get what they needed.

She thought that if she could keep it secret until they were married, she would be able to take part in more classified work.

Until one day, warm breath brushed her ear and the man's low voice sounded: "Miss Jiang, long time no see."

Yu Ying froze. The family letter she had been so careful to hide fell at her feet. "Don't get the wrong idea. I'm voluntarily accepting reform!"

The man chuckled. "Why don't you reform me, too?"
