Back to the Second Day of Our Marriage (Matriarchal Society)

Yun Qiongyi's arrival in Qingdu was an accident.

The Yun family bet on the wrong side and fell from power overnight. Their only option was to retreat in order to advance, sacrificing a pawn to save the king, and find a way to get Yun Qiongyi out of harm's way for a while.

To show their loyalty to those in power, the whole Yun family urged Yun Qiongyi to marry into the Lu family in distant Qingdu, formerly headed by the Grand Tutor.

Since Lu Hengchuan, the Lu family's youngest son, had once been interested in her, the arrangement was settled quickly.

But Yun Qiongyi was resentful. Even if she went to the Lu family, she would do so unwillingly.

Everyone called her the hope of the family, yet they all urged her to make a sacrifice.

Yun Qiongyi disliked the quiet, barren city of Qingdu, and she disliked the gentle, mild-mannered Lu Hengchuan.

Lu Hengchuan wasn't her type. Though he was handsome, Yun Qiongyi found him utterly bland.

With resentment filling her heart, Yun Qiongyi spent every day in Qingdu longing for the bustling, prosperous Yan capital, with its songs and celebrations.

When faced with the dull and uninteresting Lu Hengchuan, she would sometimes think of the person she was originally meant to marry:

Tan Qian and Yun Qiongyi had agreed that once the storm passed and she divorced Lu Hengchuan, they would be together again.

And that was exactly what they did.

After divorcing Lu Hengchuan, Yun Qiongyi returned to the Yan capital, pursued her ambitions, and put her talents to work. After many twists and turns, and a busy life, she ultimately became someone who died young.

Before her soul departed for the heavens, she saw a slender figure who had hurried all the way from Qingdu, eyes swollen and face deathly pale as they came to mourn her.

Even though they had long since severed ties, and even during those days when they were still wife and husband, they had kept everything between them clearly divided.

Only after dying did Yun Qiongyi realize that there really was someone in this world who loved her sincerely, asking for nothing in return and holding no grudges.

When she opened her eyes again, Yun Qiongyi was back in the Qingdu she had hated so much, with Lu Hengchuan beside her, the man who had loved her for a long time. They had been married just the day before.
