[The blurb will be revised later. The basic premise is that everyone is reborn and consumed by regret.]
When the game descended, xxx fought through countless trials amid a global cataclysm, reaching the final stage through sheer force of will and becoming the last one standing.
Only one person could win the game and clear it. Everyone else would die, including the entire planet.
Before the apocalypse, xxx had been an ordinary university student with simple, sincere morals. Even though the game had changed him beyond recognition, he did not want to forget who he had been.
He gave up the victor's reward and wagered everything he had, including his life, against the world. He turned back time and started the game over.
He refused to accept such a tragic ending. He would change it.
Time turned back, and he did indeed return to the past, before the game began.
But what he never expected was that his enemies and rivals had been reborn too.
Most surprising of all, the people who had once fought him tooth and nail and dealt one another vicious blows began helping and keeping him company after mistakenly believing that xxx had no memories of the past.
They said, "xxx, you don't have to bear the responsibility alone."
They said, "This isn't your fault. You did the best you could. Let yourself rest for a while."
They said, "We're willing to risk our lives to help you. Please, let us help."
For some inexplicable reason, they had all started feeling sorry for him.
xxx: ...
xxx: Why don't you just go back to stabbing me in the back like before? Stop acting like this. You're scaring me.
How did turning back time also erase some people's brains?
The penalty for losing was to enter the final death game, built around the victor.
They would have to face monsters born from xxx's obsession.
During the game, they saw xxx's memories and experiences, gradually piecing together who xxx really was.
They realized xxx wasn't as vicious and deranged as he seemed.
xxx knew what he was doing and what he had to do. He wanted everyone to have a happy ending, but the greater the goal, the more it demanded of him.
For the sake of a greater purpose, he could only sacrifice his own feelings, body, mind, and even soul.
He broke his own principles with his own hands, destroyed himself, then remade himself into someone new.
Even when he hid his true heart behind layer upon layer of an ugly mask, even when he deceived others and himself with lies, even when he pushed his body and mind to the brink of collapse time and again, he still refused to give up.
Every time they condemned him, he held himself more accountable than any onlooker ever could. He suffered more than anyone.
Every time, he gave everything he had. But the despair was too great and the end came too soon. He was only one person, yet he had to bear the weight of the whole world.
Thankfully, everything had begun again. This time, they could help him and stay by his side.
This time, he was not alone.
Premise: There is genuine compassion in this world.
