#Raising the Seventh Robin, One Step at a Time#
#Does Batman Get Downsized After 35?#
This is how the five-year-old son of the young Wayne heir saw the Bat-Family's grudges and grievances, farewells between life and death, and loving parent-child relationships:
"What? Aren't we a family that loves each other?"
Facing the Superman family next door in Metropolis, the Bat-Family's newest little one declared with absolute confidence, "My family is way more united, loving, and sunny than yours!"
The Bat-Family: ?
The Superman family: ??
The Justice League: ??? Who are you talking about?
-
Gotham, an unfortunate city where far too many terrible days have happened.
Gotham, a fortunate city, whose knights have protected her for generations and never given up on saving her.
The seeds they sowed finally took root and bore fruit in Gotham's damp, muddy, chaotic soil.
The sweet harvest would bring them hope, warmth, sincerity, prosperity, and a beautiful day.
To a brand-new Gotham
#Batman's Day of Reckoning (?)#
I've been wanting to write about the Bat-Family, so I'm opening this for advance collection. I'll add the full blurb later.
The protagonist is Tim's son, a five-year-old who says exactly what's on his mind.
A cozy, lighthearted, everyday child-rearing story. I'm not planning to have them travel to other worlds in the main story, so it probably won't be too long. No grim angst, no tragic beauty, same style as always!
Our goal: Let Batman enjoy his grandchildren!
A custom mash-up setting (sources for selected canon details will be noted), with lots of personal worldbuilding.
Personal age headcanon for the Bat-Family at the start: Bruce 35, Dick 25, Cass 21, Jason 20, Steph 19, Tim 18, Damian 13.
Note: Tim being called the young Wayne heir in the title draws on Bruce's will (Red Robin #12, which transfers the company shares and CEO position to Tim, making him publicly known as the Wayne heir in Gotham) and #16, where Tim attends a project press conference as CEO. This story uses that spin-off premise. (P.S. Lucius still handles the Wayne Group's day-to-day operations. Bruce isn't exploiting Tim!)
The original inspiration was two scenes:
One is Batman looking down at Gotham's nightscape in tears after "for the first time in fifty-four years, Gotham had a night without a single violent crime last week" (Batman: False Faces #1).
The other is Tim speaking from the heart: "If I stop being Robin... it means no innocent people will be threatened. No criminals will take desperate risks; ordinary people will have nothing to fear; no crimes or indecent acts will take place.
That would mean humanity had entered a utopia, and I would be sincerely happy to live in a world of truth, goodness, and beauty. Only under those circumstances could I ever leave this work behind." (1998 Young Justice #7)
I love them like this. Heroes deserve to be rewarded and treated well.
Get the DC editors' ridiculous decisions out of my head!!
This story is superhero-friendly. Feel free to curse me, the DC editorial department, or the supervillains, but I'll delete any insults aimed at the superheroes.
