Rugged real young master x sweet little dumpling who doesn't even realize how spoiled he is.
Some people say Xia Zhicheng is a jinx. He supposedly caused his biological parents' deaths when he was five, and his grandmother is in poor health too. No one in the village wants to play with him.
Then a boy his age moved in next door. His name was Ji Huai, and Xia Zhicheng found his first true friend.
Ji Huai was always quiet and rarely smiled, but he treated Xia Zhicheng well. He saved his favorite food and toys for him, and was always the first to stand up for him when he was bullied.
Their days were simple but happy. Xia Zhicheng thought they would stay that way forever, until the year he turned nineteen, when a luxury car pulled into Qingshui Village and a crowd of people piled out.
Xia Zhicheng heard them call Ji Huai "Young Master."
The childhood friend he'd spent every day with had suddenly become the real young master of the wealthy Ji family in City A.
It felt like something out of a novel. Xia Zhicheng was so dazed that when Ji Huai helped him into the luxury car, he still felt like he was dreaming.
Xia Zhicheng asked softly, "Can I really go home with you to your rich family?"
Ji Huai said, "My home is your home."
But soon, Xia Zhicheng realized everything had changed.
Ji Huai was always busy, busy making business deals and fighting over the family inheritance, so busy he barely had time for him.
For example, when Xia Zhicheng brought Ji Huai homemade hand-pulled noodles, Ji Huai coldly shooed him away. "I don't want any. Go outside for now."
Another time, Xia Zhicheng went to him with a pillow, saying they should sleep together. They'd always slept together before, but Ji Huai coldly sent him away. "I still have work to do. Go back to your room."
Once or twice was all right, but after it happened again and again, Xia Zhicheng was heartbroken. Tears dripped into his noodles as he wondered if Ji Huai had turned bad.
The young master had gotten rich and started looking down on him.
Everyone knew that Ji Huai, the real young master of the Ji family, had returned to his wealthy home and brought along a country bumpkin.
But the little bumpkin wasn't really rustic. His clothes were a bit plain, but he was delicate and lovely, with soft hands that had never done a day's hard work. He didn't look like a wild child raised in the countryside at all.
Only Ji Huai knew how much effort he had put into taking care of Xia Zhicheng.
Xia Zhicheng had delicate skin, so Ji Huai would rub hand cream into it with his own rough hands.
Xia Zhicheng had a weak stomach, so Ji Huai went out of his way to find delicate foods to nourish him, and ended up with stomach problems himself.
Xia Zhicheng was clingy. Ji Huai would work for him all day, so tired he could barely lift his arms, yet still ride his bike back at sunset to sleep beside him.
Later, after returning to the Ji family, Ji Huai had only one thought: he had to fight for the family inheritance and become the heir, so he could give Xia Zhicheng a better life.
He never realized that he'd misunderstood Xia Zhicheng from the start.
That night, Xia Zhicheng drank until he was drunk, acting out of spite, then clung to Ji Huai. "Do you look down on me now? Because I came from the countryside?"
Ji Huai sighed. "You're overthinking it. Zhizhi, I want to give you a better life."
But Xia Zhicheng shook his head.
"I don't want money. I don't want to live with a rich family. I want to ride around with you on your bike. The corn in the fields is ripe this year. You should come home with me to pick it, then we can buy old-fashioned ice pops and go see the cat by Grandpa Zhao's house..."
As he spoke, tears began to fall.
"Ji Huai, all I want is you."
