My Childhood Sweetheart Can't Possibly Be Nonhuman

In the third year of the apocalypse, Lu Zhihuan follows his childhood friend, Shen Jin, to live in a safe zone. At last, there are no monsters there that can imitate humans and deceive people. It is their final sanctuary.

However, the night before they reach their destination, monsters attack them. To protect him, Shen Jin draws them away at the cost of his own safety. Lu Zhihuan thinks he will never return, but before the rescue team arrives, Shen Jin emerges from the shadows, completely unharmed. The only strange thing is the chilling intensity of his gaze.

To protect his childhood friend, Lu Zhihuan doesn't want to cause unnecessary trouble, so he doesn't tell anyone what happened.

Amid flashes of lightning and rolls of thunder, he sees the man before him suddenly change shape, growing rapidly like branches and vines. Then wet tentacles coil around his waist.

"Shen Jin" says hoarsely, "Then give yourself to me."

Shen Jin can't explain why a monster would fall in love with his childhood friend. But in order to survive and return to Lu Zhihuan, Shen Jin makes a deal with it.

Shen Jin considers finding a way to kill it, but they have already become one, and if one is harmed, so is the other. Besides, it seems to mean no harm and has come solely for Lu Zhihuan. So Shen Jin lets it stay.

Until that night, when "it" controls Shen Jin's body and forces itself on Lu Zhihuan. When Shen Jin comes to his senses, he finds Lu Zhihuan beneath him, crying so hard he's breaking down.

"Shen... sob, Shen Jin, don't treat me like this, please. I'm scared..."

Shen Jin is about to comfort him when he hears its voice in his mind.

"I gave you a chance. Are you really sure you don't want to try?"
